School job scam: CBI tightens noose around neck of TMC MLA, councillors, raids several locations

The central agency conducted raids on the residences of Debraj Chakraborty, Bappadittya Dasgupta and Jafikul Islam.

Kolkata: The residences of several Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, including an MLA and two councillors were simultaneously raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday for their alleged involvement in irregularities in school recruitment in West Bengal, an official said. 

The central agency conducted raids on the homes of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation councillor Debraj Chakraborty, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) councillor Bappadittya Dasgupta, and MLA of Domkal in the Murshidabad district, Jafikul Islam, the official added.

"These raids are being conducted as a part of our investigation into the teachers’ scam. The raids are on. We are questioning the people whose homes and offices are being raided," the official told PTI. 

According to the official, raids are ongoing with the probe at various places in and around the districts of Cooch Behar, Murshidabad, and Kolkata.
