Mumbai: A critical piece of evidence in the high-profile Sheena Bora murder prosecution appears to have been misplaced. The prosecution informed the court that the bones, which the CBI alleges are Sheena Bora's remains, are supposedly untraceable.
The disappearing evidence includes skeleton remains discovered by police in 2012, the year Sheena Bora was allegedly murdered.
The Police got breakthrough after the statement of Dr. Zeba Khan, a forensic specialist from JJ Hospital who first examined the bones in 2012 and determined they were human remains.
Dr Khan's examination was critical in developing the prosecution's narrative. The prosecution had already requested more time to locate the bones, which defence attorneys did not contest.
However, after failing to locate them, the prosecution is allegedly willing to proceed with Dr. Khan's testimony without presenting the bones as evidence. The defence raised no objections to this change, which is expected to damage the prosecution's case.
Khar police later found more remains at the dumping site in 2015. These remains were sent to AIIMS Delhi for forensic test to ascertain whether they belonged to the same person matching the remains discovered in 2012.
The CBI maintains its statement that both sets of remains belonged to Sheena Bora. However, Indrani Mukerjea's lawyer, Ranjeet Sangle, denies this assertion, claiming that the remains from 2012 and 2015 are not from the same individual.
