Mumbai: Six people have died following a massive fire that broke out at a glove-making factory around 2:15 am in the Waluj MIDC area during the early hours of Sunday on New Year's Eve, December 31, in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

Upon receiving the distress call, fire department officials rushed to the scene to combat the raging inferno. Mohan Mungse, a fire officer, recounted, “We received a call at 2:15 a.m. When we reached the incident site, the entire factory was ablaze. Locals informed us that six people were trapped inside. Our officers entered, and the bodies of six people have been recovered.”

Initially, reports indicated that five workers were caught within the burning building. Subsequently, fire department authorities confirmed the unfortunate demise of six people due to the fire outbreak.

Distressing details emerged from surviving workers who revealed that the fire erupted while they were asleep inside the premises. "Ten to fifteen workers were sleeping inside the building when the fire broke out. Some managed to escape, but at least five were trapped inside," shared one of the workers.

Efforts are ongoing to extinguish the fire completely, while the precise cause behind this tragic incident remains undetermined. Authorities continue to investigate further details surrounding the event.
