Telangana Hit by Heavy Rains: Chief Minister Urges Immediate Action as Flooding Disrupts Villages
Heavy rains in Telangana caused flooding and road disruptions. Chief Minister urges evacuation and preparedness as more rain is expected.
Moderate to heavy rains swept across many parts of Telangana on Saturday, causing significant inundation of low-lying areas and disrupting road links between villages. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urgently called on all government departments to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
In response to the severe weather, Chief Minister Reddy has recommended that residents in flood-prone areas be shifted to relief camps immediately. "The officials have been asked to vacate people in the low-lying areas to safer places in view of the lifting of the gates of reservoirs," according to an official release.
Heavy rains have caused rivulets to overflow in districts including Mahabubabad, Narayanpet, and Khammam, leading to road disruptions. To address the situation, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari and DGP Jitender conducted a teleconference with district Collectors, SPs, and other officials. They have been instructed to continuously assess the situation and take necessary actions.
The Chief Secretary has emphasized the importance of taking precautions to prevent loss of life and property, as the Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rains for the next two days across the state. Control rooms are to be established in every district Collector’s office, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the state Secretariat. "She suggested that an officer should be specially appointed to supervise the overflowing streams."
Additionally, district Collectors have the authority to declare school holidays due to the adverse weather conditions. An advance plan for evacuating flood-affected areas and setting up relief camps is also recommended. Measures to prevent contamination of water sources and chlorination to curb disease spread are advised.
The Met Centre has issued a red warning, predicting very heavy to extremely heavy rain at isolated locations in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet, and other districts on Sunday. Heavy to very heavy rain is also expected in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Jagital, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Warangal, and other regions. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams stationed in Hyderabad and Vijayawada are on standby for deployment if needed.
As the state braces for further rainfall, authorities are working tirelessly to manage the situation and mitigate the impact on affected communities.
