According to official sources, more than 1,000 cases of child malnutrition have been found in Maharashtra's Thane district. At present, officials report that there are 83 cases of ‘severe acute malnutrition’ and 1,161 cases of ‘moderate acute malnutrition’.

On Friday, zilla parishad chief executive office Manuj Jindal visited the families of the malnourished children in the Shahapur taluka and promised that every effort will be made to end the malnourishment issue in Thane within six months.

During the visit, the zila CEO also took stock of the work being carried out at the public health centres and child treatment centres in the village, directing anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, doctors, nurses and supervisors to regularly check-in on the progress of the malnourished children.

The ‘Kuposhan Muktisathi Dattak-Palak Abhiyan’ has been brought into effect in the district under which each government official will adopt one child and take care of them. Jindal has asked local officials to get in touch with the adopted children under the aforementioned scheme every 15 days.
