New Delhi: Three men have been arrested for allegedly robbing a man of Rs 10 lakh at gunpoint in north Delhi's Patel Nagar, the police said on Thursday.
The suspects, identified as Tarun Sehgal (28), Monu (26), and Himanshu (25), are all known criminals with previous records, the police stated.
Tarun Sehgal, the alleged leader of the group, was previously involved in a Rs 1.25 crore robbery in Civil Lines. Monu has a history of 15 criminal cases, including robbery, burglary, theft, and violations of the Arms Act. Himanshu has also been implicated in several robbery cases, the police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) MK Meena said that on June 20, around 8:14 pm, a PCR call was received regarding a bag containing cash being snatched at gunpoint by two bikers in the Patel Nagar area. The victim, Praveen, who works as a cash collection agent for a private firm in Delhi.
Praveen told the police that he had collected Rs 10 lakh in cash and was on his way to deliver it in the Patel Nagar area, the DCP said.
Praveen stated that around 6 pm, near the gate of City Square Mall in Patel Nagar, two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle approached and forcibly took his bag at gunpoint.
"An FIR was registered and an investigation was initiated. A police team started analysing CCTV footage of the route taken by the accused and identified all three of them," DCP Meena said.
Monu was the first to be detained on July 1. Information from Monu led to the arrests of Sehgal and Himanshu on July 3, the police confirmed.
