The 49th Vande Bharat train in India is set to redefine rail travel, promising passengers a journey reminiscent of the European landscape. The Udhampur- Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link, spanning 272 kilometers, will be adorned with 38 tunnels and 927 bridges, transforming the route into a captivating odyssey through picturesque terrains.

This extraordinary rail link, poised to be operational by January 2024, marks a significant stride in connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar.

The Vande Bharat train, with 8 coaches, is a trailblazing initiative by Indian Railways, offering a unique travel experience as it glides through tunnels and over bridges, reminiscent of a journey through heaven. 

Railway Minister Ashwinin Vaishnav shared a momentous update, revealing that the entire route will be ready for operation early next year.

The route promises reducing travel time from Jammu to Srinagar 

The route, electrified across its entirety, holds the promise of reducing travel time from Jammu to Srinagar to a mere 3.5 hours, effectively halving the current duration. 

What makes this railway route truly exceptional are the 38 tunnels, totalling a staggering 119 kilometers in length.

Among them, Tunnel T-49 stretches an impressive 12.75 kilometers, earning the distinction of being the longest tunnel in the country. Complementing the tunnels are 927 bridges, spanning a cumulative length of 13 kilometers. 

The pièce de résistance of this journey

The pièce de résistance of this journey is the awe-inspiring Chenab River bridge, recognized as the world’s highest railway bridge.

Towering at a height of 359 meters above the river level and extending 1,315 meters in length, it stands as a testament to engineering marvels. 

Notably, this hanging railway bridge, suspended by cables, adds a unique and daring architectural feat to India’s infrastructure.
