New Delhi: The truck drivers on Tuesday evening decided to call off their strike, against a provision in the new penal law on hit-and-run road accidents, after assurance from the Home Ministry. 
An official source said that after the discussions with the Home Secretary, the issue of the truck drivers was resolved and All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) decided to call off the strike.

The president of AIMTC, Amrit Lal Madan said appealed to the truckers to return to their work. 

Addressing truck drivers after meeting with the government officials on Tuesday evening, Amrit Lal Madan said, "You are not just our drivers, you are our soldiers. We do not want you to face any inconvenience. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has kept the provision ten years of punishment and fine that was imposed, on hold. Until the next meeting of the All India Motor Transport Congress is held, no laws will be imposed.” 

MHA issues statement: Hit-and-run law case put on hold

“The Government of India took cognizance of the concerns of motorists regarding the provision of 10 years imprisonment and fine in Section 106 (2) of the Indian Judicial Code and held a detailed discussion with the representatives of All India Motor Transport Congress today. The government wants to point out that these new laws and provisions have not yet come into force. We would also like to point out that the decision to invoke Section 106 (2) of the Indian Judicial Code will be taken after consultation with the All India Motor Transport Congress," stated the MHA.
