New Delhi: BJP 's IT Cell chief Amit Malviya has highlighted US President Donald Trump 's endorsement of India’s voter ID system in his executive order proposing US election reforms, emphasising that it reflects the strength of India’s electoral process, which has upheld democracy for decades.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Amit Malviya praised India’s electoral procedures, stating that the introduction of VVPAT-enabled EVMs has significantly enhanced transparency. He noted that these systems enable swift vote counting within hours while maintaining robust checks and balances through a verifiable paper trail.

Referring to Trump’s acknowledgment of India’s voter ID system, the BJP leader criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi , who has frequently questioned India’s electoral process, EVMs, and the Election Commission, often alleging rigging, particularly after electoral defeats.

Amit Malviya also took a jab at the Congress party by mentioning about Shashi Tharoor, pointing out his clear endorsement of this system. Shashi Tharoor in the recent past had also acknowledged Trump's praise for PM Modi when the US President said that his friend (PM Modi) was a tougher negotiator than him.

Advocating for electoral reforms in the country, Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday to overhaul the election process in the United States, citing India’s voter identification biometric databases as an example.

In his statement, Trump noted that India and Brazil are linking voter identification to biometric databases, whereas the United States largely relies on self-attestation for citizenship.

Calling for electoral reforms in the United States, President Trump emphasised that in order to maintain their constitutional republic, it was required that a free, fair, and honest elections, unmarred by fraud, errors, or suspicion must be conducted in the country.

He further stated that to ensure the rightful winner is elected, it is essential that every citizen’s vote is accurately counted and tabulated.
