The Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) has requested the Election Commission to change the date of the by-election in Uttar Pradesh from November 13 to November 20, 2024, due to the Kartik Purnima festival. The delegation, led by State General Secretary Govind Narayan Shukla, submitted a letter to the Election Commission, highlighting the significance of the festival in Uttar Pradesh and the potential impact on voter turnout.

The Kartik Purnima bathing festival, which takes place on November 15, attracts a large number of people who come to bathe and worship at various locations, including Kundarki, Meerapur, Ghaziabad, and Prayagraj. The delegation argued that many voters may be unable to cast their votes due to their participation in the festival, which could result in lower voter turnout.

The BJP delegation emphasized that the Election Commission is committed to ensuring 100 per cent voting and that changing the election date would help achieve this goal. They proposed November 20, 2024, as the new date for the by-election, which would enable more voters to participate in the democratic process.
