UP: Kanpur Family Receives ₹3.9 Lakh Electricity Bill for Fridge, Cooler, Fans - Glitch Blamed

In summer high electricity bills are a concern all over the country and cases of high bills always make it to the news. But in a recent turn of events, a family in Uttar Pradesh who uses one cooler, fridge, and two fans has got an electricity bill of almost 4 Lakh rupees. But later an official from the electricity department gave a clearance that the high amount of the bill was due to a technical glitch. 

According to the owner Chandrashekhar, his electricity bill was on hold for four to five months and when he went to the local office of the electricity department he was shocked to see the bill with a payment amount of 3.9 lakh rupees. 

The media in charge of Kanpur Electricity Supply Company (KESCO), Srikant Rangeela said that this is known to the officials of the electricity department and it looks like it happened because of a technical glitch in the system. 

Kanpur Electricity Supply Company (Kesco) media in-charge Srikant Rangeela said that the matter was known to the electricity department officials, and it had happened due to some technical glitch in the calculating system.

He said, “Due to the changes made to the server of Kesco, some of the electricity meters have developed technical faults, due to which correct data could not be registered.”

Srikant also made it clear and assured Chandrashekhar that the problem would be resolved and till then he would not have to pay the bill amount.

Well, this is not the first time when someone has got a bill way more than their expectations. Last month a man from the capital got an electricity bill of more than 30,000 rupees which he shared on the social media website Reddit. 

Jasveer Singh, the co-founder of Hood app, received an electricity bill of 45,000 for two months and said he was considering “switching to candles.”
