Uttarkashi: A video of a man being swept away by strong river currents has gone viral. Initially, the man tried to save himself by swimming to safety. but he was quickly overtaken by the heavy currents.
The incident occurred at the confluence of the Indravati Gad and Bhagirathi rivers in Uttarkashi. The video was captured by someone from the riverbank, but no one was able to rescue him.
The flooding and landslides in Uttarakhand have been severe due to intense rainfall that fell overnight on Monday and Tuesday. The rain caused major waterlogging and flooding in several areas of Haldwani. A local stream in Devkhari overflowed, washing away over a dozen vehicles. The worst-hit areas include Krishna Vihar, Devi Vihar, Shiwalik Vihar, and Gayatri Colony, where more than 300 houses were affected by water and sludge.
Woman Went Missing While Trekking
In a related incident, a 26-year-old woman from Ghaziabad went missing while trekking in Harsil Valley, Uttarkashi. She was swept away by a flooded stream. The trekking group was found to be trespassing, as they did not have official permission for their trip. While authorities have rescued the other trekkers, they are still searching for the missing woman, despite difficult weather conditions.

IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall in Uttarakhand
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand until August 24. Moderate to heavy rain is expected, which may cause further damage to properties.
