West Bengal: Dilip Ghosh participates in BJP's 'Gandhi Sankalp Yatra'

West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh and Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai participated in the party's 'Gandhi Sankalp Yatra' in North 24 Parganas's Belgharia. BJP has organised a 6,500 km long Yatra across the State from October 15 to 26.

'A journey of 6,500 km on foot'

Dilip Ghosh, before the launch of the Yatra, had said on October 13, "This year, we are celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. In every Lok Sabha constituency, BJP MPs, MLA, and leaders will walk 15 kilometres each day between October 15 to October 26. At the end of the day, public rallies will be organised. Our workers will undertake the journey of 6,500 km on foot."

President Kovind unveiled a sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi

Earlier in the day, President of India Ram Nath Kovind unveiled a sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi at the Centre of Peace Education at Miriam College in Manila, Philippines. "This bust of Mahatma Gandhi is a gift from the people of India to you", Kovind said during his address on the occasion. But the Mahatma belongs to all people, all cultures and all societies. May he continue to guide us in our shared journey of peace, harmony and sustainable development for all," the President said.

'Honoured to unveil Gandhi's bust'

President Kovind stated that he hopes the generation of students, who pass through the gates of the Centre of Peace Education, will continue to be inspired by Gandhi's legacy "of being just and ethical in conduct; compassionate and humble in treating fellow human beings; and standing up and championing truth and truth alone, even in most trying times". The President said that he feels honoured to unveil Gandhi's bust in the Philippines, which is the land of Jose Rizal. "Both Mahatma Gandhi and Jose Rizal believed in the power of peace and non-violence. The avenue in New Delhi named after your national hero continues to inspire and motivate us."

Bollywood marked 150th birth anniversary of Gandhi

On Saturday, October 20, in an event organised at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with B-town celebs marked the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The event was attended by the members of the Indian film and entertainment industry including Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Hirani, Kangana Ranaut, Anand L Rai, SP Balasubrahmanyam, Sonam Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Sonu Nigam, and Ekta Kapoor. In an interactive session, Prime Minister thanked the creative heads and contributors for taking time out of their busy schedule for paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, at his personal request.
