WB: Woman Attempts Suicide Alleging Harassment By TMC Leaders For Protesting Against Illegal Liquor

A woman in West Bengal's Durgapur, reportedly attempted suicide alleging that she was harassed by the TMC leaders for opposing illegal liquor sale.

Durgapur: Another controversy gripped the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal after a woman in Durgapur district, reportedly attempted to die by suicide alleging that she was harassed by the TMC leaders for opposing the sale of illegal liquor in the district. Following the incident, the victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where her condition is said to be stable. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a massive protest against the ruling party in the state after the incident, accusing the TMC of protecting the safe-guarding those involved in the illegal liquor sale.

The sensational incident has surfaced from the Durgapur New Township area in West Bengal, where the victim resides along with her husband. As per the reports, the woman is known to be vocal against the illegal liquor sale and gambling in the area. She is known for protesting against the people involved in such illegal activities.

BJP Leader Agnimitra Paul Stages Protest Over the Incident

In her statement, the victim reportedly stated that she has been protesting against the illegal liquor sale and gambling activities in the area and it was because of her stance, her husband allegedly lost his job. The BJP leaders claimed that the victim too was a TMC worker earlier.  

It is being alleged that the woman approached the local TMC leaders requesting them to help her husband get his job. However, the TMC leaders allegedly proposed to her to sleep with them in return for the favour.

After the incident, the woman returned back and attempted to end her life. She was admitted in the Durgapur Sub Divisional hospital and later on taken to Bankura medical college. At present she is being admitted in a private nursing home.

Meanwhile, after the incident, the BJP leader Agnimitra Paul visited her in the hospital. Following her meeting with the victim, Paul staged a sit in protest against the alleged police inaction in the case.
