Who is Vijender Gupta, BJP Leader Elected As Delhi Assembly Speaker
Vijender Gupta has been elected as the Speaker of the newly constituted Delhi Assembly. A politician of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Vijender Gupta was the MLA from Rohini who won the seat for the third consecutive time, this time by a huge margin of more than 37,000 votes. Vijender Gupta Educational Qualifications
Vijender Gupta has been born and brought up in Delhi; he has done his schooling from the national capital. An alumnus of the Delhi University, Vijender Gupta's first step towards politics was his stint as a student leader in DU in the 1980s. The Rohini MLA from BJP has also been the Vice President of the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU).
From MCD Polls to Delhi Speaker: Political Journey of Vijender Gupta
28 years ago in 1997, Vijender Gupta began his formal political journey with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Polls; he was a councillor from Rohini for three terms. In 2002, he became the Secretary of BJP Delhi and contested against Kapil Sibal of Congress from Chandni Chowk constituency in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2009. Vijender Gupta lost the elections to Sibal and in 2013, he lost the Delhi Polls to Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi constituency. Between 2010 and 2013, Vijender Gupta was also the Delhi BJP President.

Vijender Gupta broke his jinx in the Delhi State Elections 2015 when he contested from Rohini; he was appointed as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in April that year. In 2020, he contested from Rohini again and defeated Rajesh Nama ‘Bansiwala’ from AAP by over 12,000 votes, and in the elections that went by, in 2025, Vijender Gupta won for the third consecutive time, defeating AAP's Pradeep Mittal.
