New Delhi: Petrol prices has always been a concern for the common man as prices of a lot of commodities depend on the fuel prices and even a little change in the rates always have an impact to poor and middle class pockets. As Modi government 3.0 completes the first 100 days, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in an exclusive conversation with Republic TV spoke about the petrol prices and whether the government is planning any relief for the common man.

Speaking to Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami , Nirmala Sitharaman said that the Modi government has given relief to the common man every time when there was an opportunity. He has reduced the prices and several states, especially the BJP -ruled further reduced the rates.

However, fuel prices in those states who have distributed freebees including Himachal, Tamil Nadu to name a few, exhausted their budgets and failed to provide relief in petrol prices as much as others could do.

“Where was ‘khata-khat’ then… however, I'm not saying that we shouldn't reduce petrol prices but it's upto the petroleum ministry and the Prime Minister who will take a call,” the Union Minister said.

There have been two instances in the past when the Modi government announced major reduction in petrol prices and the same was followed by several states, bringing relief to the common man, especially at a time when the world was facing pandemic and Russia-Urkaine war.
