Nagpur: A 33-year-old woman and her two male cousins have been arrested for allegedly murdering her mother-in-law over a property dispute. The crime, which occurred in Nagpur, Maharashtra , was uncovered after an investigation revealed the woman’s involvement in the plot.
Murder Revealed After Suspicious Death
Vaishali Akhilesh Raut, along with Ritesh Prakash Hiwse (27) and Shrikant alias Sameer Narendra Hiwse (21), were apprehended on Monday. The victim, Sunita Omkar Raut, 54, was strangled on August 28. The accused initially disguised the murder as a heart attack.
The case emerged ten days after Sunita’s last rites, following inconsistencies noted by neighbors and injuries found on her body. The police received a complaint on Sunday which led to the arrests.
Property Dispute at the Heart of the Crime
Sunita had recently sold a plot of land for Rs 60 lakh, which her daughter-in-law Vaishali coveted. Investigations revealed that Vaishali had paid her cousins Rs 2 lakh to execute the murder. Suspicious financial transactions and activities on Vaishali’s phone supported the claims of foul play.
The trio has been charged under sections 103(1) (murder) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
