New Delhi: Days after a 35-year-old woman died of severe injuries after her saree got caught in the door of a Delhi Metro train, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot wrote to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director (MD) to probe the incident and submit an inquiry report.

The transport minister, in his letter, asked the DMRC to disclose whether was any policy to provide financial assistance for accident victims. The deceased, Reena, was a single parent and a sole breadwinner of her family. She used to sell vegetables to earn a living. She is survived by two children, daughter (12) and son (10).

"We have asked three things to the MD DMRC. We have asked them for a copy of the inquiry report. We have asked them in how many days the inquiry would be completed. The woman who died was a widow and according to the media reports,  she has two children, 10 and 12 years old. They are now left without any parents. What is the policy of the DMRC in such a situation and how can we support them financially... As an organisation, DMRC should have such a policy in place...",  Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said. 

The the spine-chilling incident incident was caught in CCTV which showed that the victim's saree got stuck in the door. As soon as the train began to move, she was dragged onto the platform for about 25 metres. The woman suffered severe brain and chest injuries following the accident at Inderlok Metro station on December 14. She succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, December 16, at Safdarjung Hospital.
