World Order Created After WWII Changing Fast: PM Modi In Historic Address In Ghana Parliament

PM Modi, who made a historic address in the Ghanian Parliament on Thursday, said that the world order created after World War II was changing fast as he emphasised on the importance of global south.

Accra: The World order created after World War II has been changing fast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said as he made his historic address in the Ghana Parliament.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he's deeply honoured to address this esteemed house today. “It is a privilege to be in Ghana, a land that radiates the spirit of democracy.”

"As the representative of the world's largest democracy, I bring with me the goodwill and greetings of 1.4 billion Indians. Ghana is known as the land of Gold, not just for what lies under your soil but as much for the warmth and strength in your heart...," PM Modi said.

"Last evening was a deeply moving experience, receiving your national award from my dear friend, President John Mahama is an honour... On behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India, I thank the people of Ghana for this honour...," PM Modi said as he thanked the Ghanian President.

Addressing the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, PM Narendra Modi said, “Earlier today, I had the honour of paying tribute to our visionary and statesman and the beloved son of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. He once said that the forces that unite us are greater than the superimposed influences that keep us apart. His words continue to guide our shared journey...”

"India is the mother of democracy. For us, democracy is not merely a system, it is a part of our fundamental values... India has over 2,500 political parties, 20 different parties governing different states, 22 official languages, thousands of dialects. This is also the reason that people who came to India have always been welcomed with open hearts," PM Modi said.

PM Modi on India-Ghana ties, says its sweeter than ‘Sugar Loaf Pineapple’

Mentioning that India and Ghanian friendship is sweeter than Sugar Loaf Pineapple, PM Modi said, “The histories of India and Ghana bear the scars of colonial rule, but our spirits have always remained free and fearless. We draw strength and inspiration from our rich heritage... Our friendship is sweeter than your famous, Sugar Loaf Pineapple...”

Need effective and credible reforms in this fast changing world, says PM Modi  

PM Modi said that world order set after World War II is changing fast emphasising on the need of effective and credible reforms.

“The world is also facing new and complex crises such as climate change,  pandemics, terrorism and cybersecurity. Institutions created in the last century are struggling to respond. The changing circumstances demand credible and effective reforms in global governance. Progress cannot come without giving voice to the global south...We are proud that the African Union became a permanent member of the G20 during our presidency,” PM Modi said.

Mentioning how Africa connected to India during its vital space moments, PM Modi said, “Africa has been connected to many of India's proudest moments in space. When India's Chandrayaan landed on the Moon's South Pole, I was in Africa and today, as an Indian Astronaut conducts experiments onboard a space station for the welfare of humanity, I am once again in Africa...”

"...The people of India have reposed their faith in peace, security and development. Last year, they re-elected the same government for the third consecutive time, something that happened after more than six decades...India will soon be the third largest economy...," the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi invited the Ghanian leaders to visit the new Parliament of India saying, “You will be able to see the bold step that we have taken to reserve one-third of the seats in the Indian Parliament and the state assemblies for women...”
