Srinagar: On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, June 21, performed yoga at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Jammu and Kashmir. The Prime Minister said that the world sees yoga as a powerful agent for global good as it helps people live in the present without carrying the baggage of the past.
The event was scheduled to be held on the lawns of the SKICC on the banks of the Dal Lake but had to be shifted indoors due to incessant rain.
Addressing a gathering at the 10th International Yoga Day event at the SKICC, the Prime Minister said yoga has helped people realise that their welfare is linked to the welfare of the world around them. "The world is looking at yoga as a powerful agent of global good. Yoga helps us live in the present moment without the baggage of the past," PM Modi said.
"When we are peaceful within, we can also make a positive impact on the world...Yoga is making new ways of positive change in the society," he said.
Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Upon arriving in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, PM Modi addressed a function. He spoke on several issued including the recent terror attacks which happened in Jammu. PM Modi said the enemies of the Union territory were not able to digest peace and development in the region.
"The enemies of peace and humanity are not happy with the development in Jammu and Kashmir. There were some terror attacks recently... the government has taken it seriously. The Home Minister, with the J&K Administration, has reviewed the situation," said the Prime Minister.
The prime minister was referring to the terrorist attack on a bus carrying pilgrims from Reasi to Shiv Khori in Jammu region on June 9. The bus rolled down a gorge as the driver lost control of the vehicle in view of the attack, resulting in death of nine persons and injuries to several others. The terrorists also carried out back to back attacks in Kathua and Doda districts in which one security jawan was killed and several others injured.
