Worli Hit-And-Run Case: Woman Dragged on Bonnet For 2 Kms Before Getting Flung on Road
A woman died after the two-wheeler, on which she was travelling was allegedly hit by a BMW car in Mumbai's Worli area on Sunday.
Mumbai: A woman Kaveri Nakhwa (45) died after the two-wheeler, on which she was travelling with her husband Pradip Nakhwa, was allegedly hit by a BMW car in Mumbai's Worli area in the early hours of Sunday.
Such was the severity of the accident that the couple's two-wheeler overturned and threw both Pradip and Kaveri onto the bonnet of the car. As per cops, while Pradip managed to jump off the bonnet, Kaveri ended up getting dragged for nearly two kilometres before getting flung on the road.
Kaveri was travelling with her husband Pradip on the arterial Annie Besant Road when the luxury car driver lost control, the Worli police station official said.
"Kaveri Nakhwa fell on the road. Passersby alerted police about the incident. She was rushed to civic-run Nair Hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Kaveri and her husband are fisherfolk and were on their way home from Sassoon Dock in Colaba," he said.
The driver of the car, Rajesh Shah, and one more occupant identified as Rajrishi Rajendrasingh Bidawat have been booked.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police has constituted six teams in search of the accused Mihir Shah, who has remained at large ever since the incident took place on Sunday morning.
The deceased's husband sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital, added the police.
"A BMW car ran over two people riding a bike. The woman died in this incident and the other person was injured.
This incident took place at 5:30 am this morning when the couple riding on a bike were passing in front of Atria Mall in Worli", a statement from the Mumbai Police said.
The police further added that the diver fled from the spot following the incident.
"After the incident, the driver fled from the spot with his car. The accident happened when the couple from the fishing community was returning home after buying fish. The husband managed to jump off the speeding vehicle.
The woman injured in the accident died during treatment. The police emphasized that the luxury car belonged to the leader of a political party based in Maharashtra's Palghar.
"The luxury car belongs to a leader of a political party based in Palghar and his son was sitting in the car with the driver", said the police. (With inputs from ANI)
