Election Results 2024: India wrapped up the 2024 Lok Sabha elections where the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossed the mark with 293 seats, where as the opposition alliance, the INDIA bloc fetched 232 seats. 

As the new Members of Parliament (MPs) prepare to take on their duties, let's know more about their wages and benefits.

Salaries And Perks of An MP are as follows:

  • An MP earns a monthly salary of ₹1,00,000. The amount was established following a recent salary increase in 2018, with the goal of aligning their incomes with inflation rates and growing costs of living.
  • An MPs receive a monthly constituency allowance of ₹70,000 to manage expenses linked to office maintenance and constituent engagement in their electoral regions.
  • Members of Parliament earn ₹60,000 monthly for office expenses, including stationary and telephone staff pay.
  • An MPs receive a daily allowance of ₹2,000 for legislative sessions and committee meetings to cover housing, food, and other expenses in the capital.
  • MPs receive up to 34 free domestic flight trips per year for themselves and their immediate family. They also enjoy complimentary first-class train travel for official and personal reasons. MPs can also claim mileage reimbursements for vehicle trips within their seats.
  • During their five-year terms, MPs are provided with rent-free housing in prominent locations. Depending on their seniority, they may be assigned bungalows, flats, or hostel rooms. Those who prefer not to use official accommodation can claim a monthly housing payment of ₹2,00,000.
  • MPs and their immediate families are eligible for free medical care under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). This includes treatment at government and select private institutions covered by the plan.
  • Former MPs earn a monthly pension of ₹25,000 after serving one term in parliament. MP's also receive a monthly ₹2,000 raise for each additional year of service.
  • MPs are allowed up to 1,50,000 free phone calls per year. They also get free high-speed internet access at their homes and offices.
  • MPs receive free electricity up to 50,000 units and free water supply of up to 4,000 kilolitres each year.
