Key Highlights of Metro Line 14
Start Date and Construction Updates
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has fast-tracked preparations for the project. Construction is expected to begin within a year, following the completion of environmental clearances and other formalities. The Detailed Project Report (DPR), prepared by Milan Metro and approved by IIT Bombay, has already been submitted for state government clearance.
Stations on the Route
The metro line will feature 15 strategically located stations, ensuring seamless connectivity between Mumbai and its outskirts. The route will include an underground stretch from Kanjurmarg to Ghansoli and an elevated section from Ghansoli to Badlapur.
Green Corridor Considerations
Given that the route passes through sensitive ecological zones such as Thane Creek, Parsik Hill, and the Flamingo Sanctuary, obtaining environmental clearances is a critical step. MMRDA has appointed a consultant to oversee the preparation of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report and secure necessary permissions.
Fare Details
While the exact fare structure is yet to be announced, it is expected to be competitive, offering an affordable and efficient alternative to existing modes of transport.
Impact on Commuters
For residents of Badlapur and surrounding areas, Metro Line 14 is a long-awaited development. It will not only save time but also provide a reliable and eco-friendly transit option, reducing dependency on road transport.
