There are two sets of people in the world. One set includes those waiting for the right opportunities to knock on their doors. In contrast, the other set consists of individuals who put in the hard work, hone their skills, expand their knowledge and experiences in their chosen fields, and create new opportunities for them to get to the next level in their careers. Youngsters, mainly, or all those who vie to reach the top of their realms, must focus the most on continuously upskilling and working on their innate talents to become their best versions.

Mahir Sharma, an Indian actor who has not just worked extensively in the Indian film and drama industry but has also marked his presence with international projects, explains how natural talent is often perceived as a prerequisite for success in acting, but it is not the sole factor. “Talent provides the foundation, but it must be nurtured and developed through continuous practice, learning-unlearning-relearning things, and gaining more experiences. In my eyes, successful actors are those who leverage their innate skills and talents while continuously striving to improve their craft,” he says.

He talks about how hard work is the cornerstone of a successful career in any field. When it comes to acting and doing projects across platforms like stage and on-screen, actors need to dive deep into intensive rehearsals and sometimes even transformative physical preparations like he did in the film “Truce,” where he lost 15 pounds to portray a badminton player. The film later went ahead in achieving international recognition as well.

He emphasizes being committed to one’s craft, as he did in all of his projects, including Forget Me Not and Bang! Aur Mael Gayab. Mahir Sharma says that there needs to be a balance between talent and hard work. Balancing one’s natural talents with relentless effort goes a long way in the ever-so-competitive entertainment world, helping actors also overcome several challenges in achieving sustained success.
