CSR Journal Excellence Awards 3rd EditioN: Role of CSR important in achieving $5 trillion economy, says Agriculture Minister

The role and scope of the agricultural sector in achieving India’s $5 trillion economy target are important, considering the labor force participation witnessed by the sector, said Shri. Narendra Singh Tomar, Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj.

The role of agriculture in the scope of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in India is an important area needing further impetus if India is to achieve its $5 trillion economic goal, said Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Cabinet Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, addressing the audience at The CSR Journal Excellence Awards, Third Edition on July 22 at the iconic Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

The Minister was addressing a crowd-gathering of over 250 senior bureaucrats, public representatives, social activists, and members of India Inc., during the third edition of The CSR Journal Excellence Awards. The theme of this year’s awards was ‘India First’ with a focus on ‘Women Empowerment’. As a nation, Tomar said, India Inc. needs to explore areas such as agriculture, considering the high labour force participation of the sector. He insisted on exploring partnership opportunities in agriculture, and its importance in achieving the $5 trillion economy mark.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal addressed the potential which CSR in India has, following its mandate in the Companies Act, 2013, to harness its superpower status amongst the major economies in the world. The Union Minister of Food Processing brought notice to other sectors, apart from traditional sectors of CSR investment in India, to achieve the $5 trillion economic mark by bridging regional disparities and focusing on empowering women.

The role of CSR is important, especially in the developing countries around the world, said G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs. India mandated CSR 2 in 2014, and since then the area has seen enormous growth potential for human development. Kishan Reddy felicitated winners of the Excellence Awards – Edition 3, across six categories including Education and Skill Training, Women Empowerment and Child Welfare, Agriculture and Rural Development, Sports, Health and Sanitation and Environment. The top six winners were Tata Power, ReNew Power, Hindustan Zinc, Aditya Birla Capital Ltd., YES Bank Ltd. and Mahindra & Mahindra from the respective categories.

      TISS AESDII (Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Assessment and Empanelment Standards for Development Institutions in India) was the knowledge partners for the shortlisting process.
