Traditionally, shinny, elongated hair has always been recognised as a symbol of beauty across diverse cultural backgrounds. Over the years, oiling your hair is considered as one of most crucial steps daily hair care, especially in India. These natural oils that contain benefits fruits, nuts and plants, have been applied over the years and be classified as grandma's secret to great hair.
Their consistent application makes it benefits all the more authentic, and let’s take a look at five traditional Indian hair oils known for their power to enhance the overall quality of hair. Here’s a step-by-step process to make essential oils at home.
1. Choose a carrier oil like coconut, almond or olive oil.
2. Select essential oils known for hair benefits, such as rosemary, lavender, peppermint.
3. If using herbs, place them in the jar with the carrier oil. If using a heat-sensitive oil, heat it gently (not boiling) in a pan, then add the herbs and let it infuse for 2-3 day
4. Strain the oil through cheesecloth or a sieve to remove the herbs.
5. Pour the mixture into the dropper bottle using a funnel if needed.
6. Never place essential oils directly onto your scalp as they can irritate your skin. Always dilute the essential oils with a carrier such as coconut oil, specially when using it daily.
7. Use a glass jar that is approximately 5 fl oz (150 ml) and which has a lid that seals well. Place each measured ingredient directly into the jar and then screw the lid back on.
8. Alternatively, you can use the hair oil to moisturize your hair after you have showered. Place a few drops of the hair oil onto your palms and run your hands through the ends of your hair.
