George RR Martin wrote a series of fantasy novels called A Song of Ice and Fire. The first volume of the series, A Game of Thrones was published in 1996. While the author plans to publish seven books, he has already published five and he is currently working on the sixth book, The Winds of Winter. While the fans cannot wait to read the books already, we’re listing a few books similar to the Game of Thrones series for you to read.

Who Fears Death, by Nnedi Okorafor

A novel which will soon be turned into a TV show is a book about the post-apocalyptic Africa where genocides used to plague the region. A child is born from a terribly raped victim and the society, her people itself, do not accept her. But, the child has special powers to allow her to visit the world of spirits. She then encounters enemies and a destiny that will change her entire life. The TV show will be directed by none other than George RR Martin himself.

A Darker Shade of Magic, by VE Schwab

Written by the author VE Schwab the novel is based on the story of Antaris who are special magicians and can travel between worlds. In the first book of this trilogy, you will be introduced to Kell, one of the last two living who possess this power. His role in the story is to bring messages between the three Londons- Red, where the magic roams. White- where power struggle causes chaos and Grey- where there is little magic found. Soon, the secret of Kell spills when he is found smuggling objects between worlds and has to stop to fight when the lost London- Black London finds its way into Kell’s world.

Red Rising, by Pierce Brown

This novel is a sci-fi fantasy that takes place on Mars as ruthless Westeros introduces a world divided into castes where the Reds live beneath the surface of Mars and mine it so that one-day people can live on the surface. Until one day Darrow discovers that he and his people have been slaves, he joins a secret resistance to infiltrate the Gold to take it down from them.
