TV Shows and other entertaining series have been a part of our culture for a long time. It provides rejuvenation and leisure and offers a way to escape the hustles and bustles of hectic routines. Here’s are some of the most popular TV/Netflix series that are actually adaptations of books, novels or other written pieces.

Book-to-film adaptations

Game of thrones

The modern age TV phenomenon, Game of Thrones rose to fame worldwide. Although, the series is originally an adaptation from George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy novels. The locations of the filming of the series also included Canada, Croatia, Iceland, Malta, Morocco, and Spain. Majority of the shots took place in Belfast and other regions of U.K. Game of Thrones premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011, and concluded on May 19, 2019, with 73 episodes broadcast over eight seasons.

Shrill

The story revolves around a timid girl who was criticized for being over-weight. The story proceeds to unfold the transformation of the girl into a bolder, more powerful version of herself. Her jokes hold strong messages and cover dark topics like body-shaming, rape culture and racism. Shrill is an American comedy web television series, based on the book Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman by Lindy West, that premiered on March 15, 2019, on Hulu.

Gossip Girl

The famous Netflix series stars’ popular actors Blake Lively and Leighton Meester. But the story of a group of rich kids finding their way through tough life and problems with relationships actually took birth on Cecily von Ziegesar’s book series. The book series was published by Little, Brown and Company, a subsidiary of the Hachette Group. The original novel became the inspiration for the Gossip Girl teen drama television series, created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah

One of India’s most loved sitcoms, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah can be traced back to the column Duniya Ne Undha Chashma written by columnist and journalist/playwright Taarak Mehta for the Gujarati weekly magazine Chitralekha. Prominent actors like Dilip Joshi and Disha Vakani are a part of the famous TV show. The show has received multiple awards, some of which include Best Sitcom and Best Sitcom - Writer as well.

Kismat

Kismat is a popular Indian drama that airs on Sony. The story is derived from the British author Jeffrey Archer's 1979 novel, Kane and Abel. The story revolves around two men who are extremely different from each other yet share unprecedented ties. Aditya Raj Merchant is a wealthy and powerful industrialist while Kabir Khan is in a situation of great poverty.
