The festive vibes are not refusing to end with the commencing of Diwali and Bhai Dooj. Diwali truly brings loads of happiness, joy, and positivity to it. It begins with Dhanteras which is followed by Choti Diwali, Diwali, Govardhan Puja and finally Bhai Dooj. Diwali is celebrated with much fanfare in the country. The auspicious Govardhan Puja along with Bhai Dooj is celebrated after that. Bhai Dooj is all about celebrating the bond between a brother and a sister. The festival is marked by all the sisters applying a vermilion tilak on the forehead of their brothers and praying for their success. The brothers in turn vow to protect their sisters from all the negativities of the world.

Bhai Dooj is celebrated two days after Diwali

Bhai Dooj will be celebrated this year on October 29, 2019. Bhai Dooj is always celebrated two days after Diwali. The Bhai Dooj Tilak or the Tilak Muhurat as it is called will be taken place between 13:11 pm and 15:25 pm. The exact duration of this ritual will go on until 2 hours and 14 minutes. The Dwithiya Tithi will begin from 6:13 am on October 29, 2019. The Tithi will finish at 3: 48 am on October 30, 2019. Bhai Dooj is known by different names in different places.

Different places celebrate the festival with different traditions

It is known as 'Bhai Pota' in West Bengal and 'Bhau Beej' in Maharashtra. There are different rituals and traditions attached to the festival. One of the mythological significance of the festival is that Lord Krishna had visited his sister Subhadra after defeating the demon Narakasura. Subhadra welcomed him with sweets, gifts and also applied a tika on his forehead. Lord Krishna blessed her with several boons for this loving gesture. Every place has different rituals attached to the festival. Bhai Pota in West Bengal is celebrated with sisters applying a tika on their brother's forehead while chanting a mantra. In the state of Haryana, the tika ceremony happens with the tying of a coconut with a kalwa thread and offered during the time of the arti.
