Why do devotees celebrate Chaitra Navratri?

During the Chaitra Navratri, many devotees come together to honour Goodness Durga and seek her blessing for well-being and prosperity. The celebration of Chaitra Navratri symbolizes the triumph of good over evil, meanwhile marking the beginning of spring and a new year.

Every region of India celebrates each festival with a regional touch, and for Chaitra Navratri, many regions culminate with Ram Navami , Lord Ram's birth anniversary, on the final day.

Important rituals to perform for a sacred puja

  • Ghatasthapana: Install a sacred pot, also known as Kalash, often made of metal, symbolizing good fortune, on the first day of Chaitra Navratri.
  • Invoke Goddess Durga: Light a diya and place it in front of the Kalash, followed by chanting prayers and mantras to seek Goddess Durga’s blessings. Don’t forget to offer kumkum, rice grains, and fresh flowers to the Goddess.
  • Special Food: During Navratri, there is a tradition of preparing special food, particularly for this day. Offer Satvik food, including water and tulsi, to the Goddess.
  • Perform Aarti: Perform the aarti while singing and chanting to uplift the atmosphere and invoke divine energy.
  • Fasting: Observe a fast during Chaitra Navratri and consume only Satvik food such as fruits, nuts, milk, and grains.
