Diwali 2019: Read to know about Laxmi Puja muhurat and timings

Laxmi Puja is one of the most auspicious days in the five-day-long Diwali festivities and can be performed during three types of Muhurat on the day of Diwali.

During the five days long Diwali festivities, Laxmi Pujan is the most important day according to rituals and common practices. Diwali is celebrated as Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after his victory over the demon king Ravana. As per the Hindu mythological text Ramayana, the whole of Ayodhya was lit up with diyas and lanterns to celebrate their exiled king's return. On Diwali, Goddess Laxmi is celebrated on Laxmi Puja as devotees believe that she brings wealth and prosperity to households. There are specific rituals that have to be followed while performing the Laxmi Puja on the day of Diwali.

Laxmi Puja is celebrated by performing the Puja at the puja room of the house. After the Puja, people exchange Upahars (gifts for loved friends and family) and burst crackers outside their homes. Usually, Laxmi Puja falls on the third day of the five-day calendar. It follows the second Yama Deepam Day. This year Laxmi Puja falls on October 27, 2019.

Laxmi Puja can be performed during these following Muhurtam.

This year Laxmi Puja will fall on a Sunday

  • Kumbha Lagna Puja Muhurtam in the afternoon between 2:21 pm to 3:57 pm, a total duration of one hour and thirty-seven minutes. 
  • Vrishabha Lagna Muhurtam in the evening between 7:15 pm to 9:15 pm, a total duration of two hours.
  • Simha Lagna Muhurtam in the midnight between 1:41 am to 3:49 am, next day, a total duration of two hours and eight minutes.

Laxmi Pujan will be followed by Diwali Snan and Bali Praatipada. This will fall on the fourth day of the festivities. The fifth day marks Bhai Dooj. Diwali concludes with Tulsi Pujan which is performed only on the 12th day after Bhai Dooj. Diwali marks as one of the most important festivals in the Hindu calendar in India.
