Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 in Saudi Arabia: Ramadan reaches its final day, and Muslims eagerly anticipate the joyous celebration that concludes a month of fasting from dawn to dusk.
In India, this holy month began on Sunday, March 2, following the sighting of the crescent moon on Saturday, March 1. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia observed the start of Ramadan a day earlier, on March 1.
Saudi Arabia follows the Umm al-Qura calendar, which relies on calculations to determine key dates years in advance. Based on this calendar, the first day of Shawwal, marking Eid al-Fitr is expected on Sunday, March 30.
If the crescent moon is sighted on March 30 after Maghrib prayers, Eid will be celebrated on March 31. However, if the moon is not seen, Eid will take place on April 1.
The same method applies in Saudi Arabia: if the crescent moon is visible on March 29, Eid will be observed on March 30. Otherwise, it will fall on March 31.
Eid-ul-Fitr, meaning "festival of breaking the fast," celebrates the end of Ramadan, a month dedicated to fasting, prayer, and reflection. As one of the five pillars of Islam, it is a time for gratitude, charity, and community gatherings.
Around 70 days later, Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, the "Feast of Sacrifice," which coincides with the end of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
