Dussehra, which comes after nine days of Navratri festivities, falls on October 12, 2024. It marks the triumph of good over evil and is celebrated with various cultural activities, the highlight being the traditional Ravan Dahan.

Ravan Dahan

Ravan Dahan is the symbolic act of burning life-size effigies of the demon king Ravana along with his accomplices, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran. People gather at iconic grounds to witness this dramatic event. Some of the best places to watch Ravan Dahan include Ramlila Maidan, Lal Qila Maidan, Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra Theater Lawns, Dwarka Sri Ram Leela Society, and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Rituals

Rituals such as Shami Puja, Aparajita Puja, and Seema Avalanghan (also known as Seemollanghan) are performed on Vijayadashami. According to Drik Panchang, “These rituals should be performed during the afternoon, as per the Hindu division of the day.”
