2025 has entered its first quarter, and Holi is nearly here. The festival represents the victory of good over evil, heralds the arrival of spring, and fosters joy and unity. Families and friends gather to play with colours, deepening their connections and embracing the festive mood. Preparations for this two-day celebration start weeks in advance, with markets brimming with coloured powders (gulal), water pistols, and traditional sweets. However, as always, there’s some confusion about whether the festival falls on the 13th or 14th this year.
When is Holi 2025?
Holi is celebrated at the end of Phalguna, a month in the Hindu calendar. The first day, called Chhoti Holi or Holika Dahan, involves lighting a bonfire to symbolise the triumph over the demoness Holika. In 2025, this will occur on Thursday, March 13.
The second day, known as Rangwali Holi, Dhulandi, or Phagwah, is a time for playing with colours and celebrating with others. It will take place on Friday, March 14, 2025, marking the beginning of the Hindu month of Chaitra.
As per Drikpanchang, the Purnima Tithi will start at 6:05 am on March 13, 2025 and end at 7:53 am on March 14, 2025.

What is Holika Dahan?
Holika Deepak, also known as Chhoti Holi or Holika Dahan, is an important ritual performed on the eve of Holi. People light a bonfire to symbolise the victory of good over evil. This tradition honours the Hindu legend of Holika and Prahlad, where Holika, a demoness, tries to kill Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, but ends up perishing in the flames instead.
