Diwali 2019: These traditional snacks are a must-try

Diwali is not the only festival of lights but also the food. A month prior, one starts with the preparations for Diwali. Here is a list of traditional dishes.

The festive season for India will start soon. Ever since the beginning of Navratri, the preparation for Diwali starts. People meet and celebrate together during this 5-day long festival. Starting from Dhanteras on October 25, till Bhai Duj on October 29 this year. the Festival of Lights will be celebrated on October 27 and the very next day will be celebrated as the New Year. Every one visits each other's home with wishes of wellbeing and prosperity. According to Indian customs, one always offers a guest something to eat. Here is the list of dishes you can add to your serving tray on this auspicious occasion.

Sooji Halwa

Diwali and sooji halwa go hand-in-hand. Sooji halwa is something which is commonly made in Indian homes on special occasions. From birthdays to festivals, it is commonly found on the dinner table because everyone likes the way it tastes. 

Namakpaare

When we meet our dear ones after a long time, having a chai pe charcha is very common. Namakpare could be a good combination for your special chit chat. If you are not a person with a sweet tooth, this crunchy and savoury snack will be a saviour for you. You can easily make this recipe at home with simple ingredients.

Soan Papdi

Soan papdi is a cube-shaped dessert which has a flaky taste. It is made with desi ghee, which is very good for health. So, just go and take the ingredients; gram flour, sugar, desi ghee and milk, and make this delicious dessert to enjoy with your close friends. And, you can also pack it as a Diwali gift for your relatives (there is a high possibility of getting a packet yourself!).

Aloo Tikki

Don't let your taste buds get bored with sweets on the occasion of Diwali. Made with potatoes that are shredded into small patties before frying, these Diwali snacks can also be followed as a side to the main meal. But do not skip the sauces as will usually find the Aloo Tikki patties served hot with mint chatni, yoghurt and tamarind sauce.

Murukku

Murukku is a popular South Indian snack made with the goodness of rice flour. It is commonly known as ‘chakli’ in the Northern areas of India. You can easily make this recipe at home with minimum efforts. This snack has a good life and it can be stored for about 3-4 months. Try it with your loved ones at tea time.
