The fermented rockstar celebrates its third World Idli day on Saturday. Fans around the world of the favourite breakfast delicacy – Idli celebrate their love for it on Twitter.

M Eniyavan, the founder of Mallipoo Idly- a popular chain - ideated the concept of World Idli day, three years ago saying in an interview to the media, “The humble idli is the safest food for all ages - children to elderly. It struck me to celebrate 30 March as World Idli Day like Father’s Day or Mother’s Day.”

A recent survey by a food-ordering platform has revealed that Bengaluru ranks top in its love for idli in terms of maximum number of idlis ordered. Mumbai and Chennai have been ranked second. Surprisingly they are followed by San Francisco, London.

Major online food-ordering platforms have joined in the Idli festivities offering discounted rates for three days.

Eniyavan, who goes by the name Inayavan Idli, has proudly posted on his Facebook page that his brainchild has led to an Idli Making Competition, conducted on Saturday- 11 am onwards, by Coimbatore-based AJK College of Arts and Science.
