It is basically a sweet pudding of rice cooked in milk and garnished with fried nuts. There are many variations among the recipe of paal payasam, such as the inclusions of sugar, jaggery, coconut milk, etc. More than 100 types of payasam recipes are made with different ingredients. The most basic and popular is the Paal payasam, or milk payasam. It is usually served as a dessert. It provides different varieties like meetha bhaat, payasam, payasa, dudhpak, and many more. This paal payasam recipe is a quick method that takes only 20 minutes. The dessert is vegetarian. The dessert will be loved by kids as it is sweet and filled with wholesome ingredients. The most basic and popular version is paal payasam or milk payasam. You can make this dessert for all festivals with these easy steps.

Ingredients needed

Milk, Sugar, Ghee, Saffron

Instructions

  • Use a strong-bottomed pan.
  • Water in the pan for 2 teaspoons. Add basmati rice and roast until it becomes fragrant.
  • Add the milk and boil with rice. Cook until the rice is fully cooked. It should take 30-40 minutes.
  • Add the almonds, sugar, and saffron.
  • Simmer for another 10 minutes, and you are ready to go.

Ingredients

You need 1.5 cups of thin coconut milk and 1/2 cup of thick coconut milk to make a paal payasam with coconut milk.

Instructions

  • Cook the rice in thin coconut milk.
  • Add the sugar and heat until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Add saffron nuts and cardamom powder
  • Add thick coconut milk to the mixture.
