While the world of Twitter is rejoicing in the third World Idli day celebrations, local restaurant owners and Chennaites alike seem clueless that 30 March has been World Idli Day since the last three years.

While the world of Twitter is rejoicing in the third World Idli day celebrations, local restaurant owners and Chennaites alike seem clueless that 30 March has been World Idli Day since the last three years.

Trident Hotel, Chennai is one of the few hotels offering an array of special idli varieties customised for World Idli Day, but without any price discounts.


Chennai based Idli Factory too is offering no special discount to its dine-in customers, but has a bulk order discount for idlis on the various online food-ordering portals. Popular eateries like Murugan Idly shop and Ratna Café which have many varieties of idlis on their menus too are not offering any discounts on the humble idli on Saturday.

iD also known as idlydosa, a contemporary South Indian restaurant seems unaware that the 'i' in 'iD' is celebrating World Idli Day on Saturday.
