When it comes to waffles, the standard butter-and-syrup one immediately comes to mind. Waffles perfectly toe the line between crispy and fluffy and their design makes the perfect space for too much syrup. On top of that adding some of your favourite toppings will make your meal downright fun. Try out this five waffle varieties that you can experiment with.

Peanut butter waffle sandwich

This waffle recipe is simple! Just spread some peanut butter on one waffle and top it with another to make a sandwich. When warm, cut them into sticks or thin slices. You can also dip the peanut butter waffle sandwich in maple or chocolate syrup.

Pizza waffles

There are different shapes of waffle makers. Slice the pizza dough into eight equal pieces and press each piece flat. Place four pieces of dough into a preheated and greased waffle iron. Spread marinara, mozzarella, and slices of pepperoni on each piece of dough. Top with the remaining pieces of dough and seal. Cook for 3-5 minutes, until it turns golden brown.

Ice cream waffle sandwich

Just put one scoop of your favourite ice cream on one waffle. You can add chocolate chips, strawberries, or banana slices before you top it with another waffle to make a sandwich. You can also use crushed pistachio or a sweet syrup as your toppings and press for an instant sundae fit for a celebration.

Falafel Waffles

To prepare falafel waffles, preheat the oven to 200 degrees F to keep cooked waffles warm. Prepare a mixture of oil, cilantro, flour, parsley, baking powder, cumin, salt, coriander, cayenne, egg whites, garlic, and chickpeas in a food processor and pulse until smooth. Fill the waffle iron about three-quarters of the way full and cook until the falafel is golden brown. Add your choice of toppings, drizzle with the hummus and sprinkle with a few dashes of hot sauce.

Waffle Omelette

In a medium bowl, add the beaten eggs, any of your favourite toppings, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Grease waffle iron with nonstick spray. Add the egg mixture and cook until the eggs are fully set and slightly browned. Wait for 2 minutes. Remove the egg from the waffle iron and serve it hot.
