The day is marked in 150 countries around the world.

The event for this year's world food day is organized at the Julian Cho High School, Toledo District, on Friday, October 19th, 2018, with the opening ceremony which will commence at 9:00 a.m. The celebration of the day will include activities featuring ethnic food dishes from Belize, displays of various types of locally processed foods and meats, cultural presentations, commercial and agricultural displays and other activities promoting food and nutrition security, so as to help spread awareness and appreciation for the various contributions of agriculture to our Belizean culture. It will be observed under the them “OUR ACTIONS ARE OUR FUTURE. A #ZERO HUNGER WORLD BY 2030 IS POSSIBLE”. Stopping food wastage is one of the biggest action plans to eradicate world hunger, as is stressed upon on the official website of the FAO of UN.

To mark the day, these are the basic things one can do at home to contribute to the cause:

Recycle and Reuse

Recycling and reusing food waste can contribute much to stabilize the global issue. Generally, the food wastes we generate can be turned into manures and further used to grow edibles. One should keep bio-degradable and non-bio degradable waste separate at home.

Avoid leftovers

In the world of having too much, we often forget about the wastage. The amount of food one wastes in each meal is probably something another person round the corner of the world is dreaming of. One should cook or order food as much as necessary and refrigerate it for later if needed. The reduction of wastage of food will have a major positive impact.

Adopt a sustainable diet

Eating sustainable meals can definitely help to achieve sustainable goals. One should eat nutritious meals using simple, healthy ingredients, and adopt a diet that reduces wastage and keeps one healthy at the same time.
