Tulsi is considered a holy plant for all Indian households. It is usually worshipped and offered to the Gods. The plant also has a lot of health benefits. From fighting off diseases to increasing immunity, Tulsi can help you in multiple ways. Here are a few benefits of the plant.

Health Benefits of Tulsi Plant

Improves stomach health

Tulsi can protect your stomach against stress-induced stomach ulcers. It naturally increases mucus secretion and mucus cells. It decreases the level of stomach acid and also extends the life of existing mucus cells.

Lowers your blood sugar levels

If you suffer from prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes, the tulsi plant will help reduce your sugar levels. Studies have shown that it can prevent diabetic symptoms like -

  • weight gain
  • hyperinsulinemia, or excess insulin in the blood
  • high cholesterol
  • insulin resistance
  • hypertension

Protects against injuries and cures wounds

Tulsi leaves extracts are antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal in nature. As per various studies, the plant is also sometimes used as an analgesic. They also work wonders against wounds and infections like mouth ulcers, raised scars and acne.

Reduces stress and anxiety

As stated in multiple reports, the basil plant can work as an adaptogen. An adaptogen is a natural substance that can help the body to adapt to stress and boosts mental balance. Research shows that Tulsi can help the body cope with various types of stress, be it chemical, physical, emotional or infectious. According to Ayurveda's research, Tulsi leaves have antidepressant and antianxiety properties comparable to diazepam and antidepressant drugs.  

The easiest way to add Tulsi to your diet is by using it as your herbal tea supplement. Since it is caffeine-free, it is safe and even recommended to drink daily. Simply boil a cup of water and pour it over a teaspoon full of tulsi leaves. Keep it covered for about 20 minutes, drain the mixture and drink.
