However, there are people who want dogs to be big and intimidating (for various purposes like police investigations, dog shows, safety), and such dog lovers often lookout for large dog breeds in India. These large dogs are usually heavier than 20 kg and can weigh even up to 80 kg. Here is a list of the most popular large dog breeds in India are mentioned below.

Golden Retriever

Their obedient, friendly, and adorable nature has made them quite popular among dog lovers in India. Golden Retrievers are great watchdogs and if trained well can win in different dog shows. This breed has a lovely physique, good intelligence and belongs to the sporting group. The dogs belonging to this breed weigh around 25 to 35 kg approximately, and the average height is 20 to 24 inches. This breed of dogs lives up to around 12 to 15 years maximum.

Labrador Retriever

These are extremely friendly and devoted dogs which can be trained easily. This dog belongs to the sporting group. They are seen in different colours such as yellow, black, and shiny chocolate colour. The approximate weight of each dog is around 65 to 80 kg, and the height is around 22.5 to 24.5 inches. You can expect these active and friendly dogs to live up to 10 to 12 years maximum.

German Shepherd

You can expect a German Shepherd to be very much friendly, active, curious, and steadfast. This agile dog lives up to 9 to 13 years. The average weight and height are 25 to 35 kg and 24 to 26 inches. These dogs are extremely bold and good looking with a lovely physique. They need to take food rich in protein, which helps them to grow faster. They are very sharp can be trained within no time.

Great Dane

This breed of dogs is easy to train, owing to their high intelligence quotient. They are known as "Apollo Dogs" owing to their robust physique and agility. The colours available are black, blue, fawn, mantle, harlequin, and brindle. These fall under the working group of dogs, the average weight and height range between 25 to 40 kg and 30 to 32 inches, respectively. They need high-quality dog food and are friendly as well as affectionate with everyone

Beagle

This small and compact sniffer dog belongs to the hound group. These dogs are usually always happy and very curious. Their Jacobson’s organ is very sharp to ensure a good sense of smell. You can expect this dog to live up to 12 to 15 years. They need extensive training along with food training because they eat almost everything, and they tend to overeat quite often.
