Everyone knows that maintaining your lawn includes watering the plants occasionally and mowing but there is more to it than what meets the eye. Having a lawn is a great thing but it is a tedious process to take care of it. Having a good lawn is possible when a routine is followed. You can also opt for thatching, which is a way of crafting a layer of dry vegetation and water reed on the roof of the house. Learn to maintain your lawn with these tips.

Watering

Watering is one of the most important parts and should be done correctly. The idea is to water extensively when the lawn needs it instead of watering frequently. Watering lightly is not an option as it will not reach down the soil. So do not water lightly as this is a waste. The key is to water heavily. You should water enough to soak 6 to 8 inches deep. This will help the roots grow deep into the ground. Water as soon as the grass starts to dry out. One effective way to know that the grass needs water is to check if it has lost its bounce. If the grass does not spring back, it requires water.

Mowing

Mowing reduces the load on a grass plant’s root system. It is best if you mow more frequently during the growing season. Do not cut off more than a third of the grass at once. This is indeed bad for the grass to lose its photosynthesizing ability. It is a common mistake to take off the grass too short. Follow a varying mowing pattern. Always sharpen your blades before cutting. Set periodic maintenance.

Fertilising and weeding

Fertilising adds nutrients to the soil. Mowing regularly makes the grass grow quickly, meaning it will require nutrients. Thus, fertilising is as necessary as mowing. The weeding process is imperative. If a lot of weeds pop up, take it as a sign that your plants are weaker.
