Tips for camping solo

Going camping solo is not as easy as a group trip as you need to take care of all the necessities yourself. For a good solo camping trip, you should be proficient at navigation, pitching a tent, managing food and water as well as any first aid that is required. If you are not well versed at all these factors, it may pose an issue.

Go to a familiar location

If you have the required skills, then solo camping can be quite rewarding. You do not need to worry about anyone else and going by yourself also greatly increases your confidence as well as improves your camping skills. However, if this is your first solo trip, you should go to a location that you are already familiar with. This will make your trip far more comfortable and will allow you to get used to camping solo.

Stay for longer than just a day

Do not just go on a day-long trip, try to stay at the location for at least a few days so that you get completely adjusted to the area. Once you are experienced at solo camping you can then try going to new areas. Always stay for a few days in a new location so that you get used to your surroundings and get acclimatized. Doing so will greatly improve the enjoyment of your trip as well as make your subsequent trips to the same area stress-free.

Travel light

It would also be better if you do not carry too much with you. Since you are going by yourself, the load of your luggage should be much lighter. Do not carry unnecessary items as they will only add to the load, which will make carrying, unpacking and repacking the luggage very stressful. Travelling light is also helpful in case you decide to explore and travel more than what was initially planned.

Stay connected

On the matter of safety, always tell someone else where you are going and the duration of your trip, so that someone will come to your aid in the case of a mishap. While many campers do not want to take technology with them on their trip, it is always a good idea to carry a phone or an emergency locating device. Doing so not only lets you call for help but also lets your friends or family keep a tab on your safety. It is also wise to carry essential first aid items.

Finally, even though your safety is important, try not to be paranoid. If you want to go on a solo camping trip, you need to learn to stay calm in isolation. Do not let minor disturbances scare you. Always remember to stay safe while having fun at the same time.
