Castella de Aguada

Popularly known as the Bandra Fort, Castella de Aguada was built by the Portuguese in 1640. The word ‘Aguada’ refers to the availability of freshwater in the region. The fort was built by the Portuguese as a watchtower to keep an eye on the nearby regions. It is Breezy heaven, a beautiful Sunset Point and a Famous Bollywood movie shooting location.

Sewri Fort

The fort served as a watchtower during the 15th century when the Portuguese were in Mumbai. The fort is designed in such a way that its small inner entrances are perpendicular to the main entrance. There is a pentagonal room along with a long corridor inside the fort. The fort is situated atop a cliff giving the benefit of height to get a panoramic view of the Mumbai harbour.

Bombay Castle

The fort is also known as Casa da Orta, is one of the oldest structures in the history of Mumbai. The Bombay castle is in present-day INS Angre. As per reports, the first Governor of Bombay Gerald Aungier used to stay here.

Murud-Janjira Fort

Surrounded by water on all sides, Murud-Janjira Fort is often referred to as the island fort. It was built in the 17th century. With high walls on all its sides, this fort has managed to withstand the pressure of the sea waves through ages.

Fort Bassein

It was built in the 16th century by the Portuguese and was earlier called as Fort Bassein. Now, it more popularly famous as Vasai Fort. It is situated 50 km away from the Mumbai city and is a popular picnic spot for a quick gateway. The fort is surrounded by sea on three sides and also featured in some of the movies like Josh and Khamoshi.
