Jet lag can ruin an entire trip. If you wish to enjoy your International trip to the fullest, you need to make sure your sleep schedule is proper. Here are five tips to follow if you are planning to visit some place outside the country and don’t know how to deal with the jet lag that will follow.

Tips to get over jet lag

1.       Preparation before departing

You can prepare your body for jet lag. All you have to do is time your sleep schedule according to the place you are planning to visit. You can make the most of your trip if you prepare your body for the new place that you are vacationing at or visiting for work. Go to sleep and wake up at a fixed time. Start the schedule at least four days prior to starting your trip.

2.       Set your watch according to the time of the place you are visiting

Change the time in your personal watch or wristwatch. This will naturally make you follow the schedule that you wish to follow when you are at the new place. It is most recommended that you make the changes in your watch once you enter the plane. Also, start practising daily habits according to your new schedule even before you depart.

3.       Skip caffeine and alcohol

This is something you can make sure of on the flight. You need to skip the coffee and alcohol that you have in the flight if you wish to get rid of jet lag. Caffeine in general spoils the sleep schedule. When on a plane, the caffeine will restrict you from falling asleep during the journey and will lead to you being tired when you land.

4.       Make a spontaneous plan

If you can afford to spend some time and energy, plan to visit a new place on a short notice. Explore the place you are visiting, have some good food, discover some exotic locations. Now try to keep yourself awake and engaged. When you arrive at your final destination, you will notice that you are able to adjust to your new schedule better.

5.       Make it dark in your room

You can put yourself to sleep simply by turning all the lights off. Block any kind of light that is entering the room with the help of a cloth or newspaper. This will force your body to fall asleep. You can also try the basic techniques that put you to sleep, like counting backwards.
