INLD leader Abhay Chautala told news agency PTI that a party worker was also killed in the incident, adding that there was no police security given to the 70-year-old. Chautala raised serious concerns over Rathee's security, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Chautala wondered why Rathee's security wasn't upgraded even after he was facing threats. Expressing disbelief, senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda claimed that the law and order in Haryana is worsening day by day.

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said that he has instructed officials to look into the incident while declaring that the Special Task Force (STF) has also joined the investigation.
