Patna: The gruesome killing of Jitan Sahani, father of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani, at his residence in Darbhanga has stirred a political storm with many in the Opposition stating that "Bihar is in a state of terror" while the BJP-JDU government has assured that the "accused will not be spared." Ahead of this year's Lok Sabha elections, VIP had joined hands with RJD to contest from three seats in Bihar. Calling out the increase in murders in Danapur and Patna as well, independent MP Pappu Yadav said that not even a father and a son are safe in Bihar, which is "in a state of terror." “Many murders have taken place in Danapur and Patna is also witnessing murders in broad daylight. Bihar is in a state of terror right now. I spoke to Mukesh Sahani in the morning. It is sad to see that people’s father, son and sister are not safe,” said the Purnia MP.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said that the government has taken prompt measures to assure justice to the victim's family. "We have immediately taken action and the CM has ordered the formation of an SIT to investigate the issue at the earliest and the accused will be put behind bars... Bihar has the fastest working police force in the country. Proper investigation will be carried out and the accused will not be spared," Choudhary said.
Echoing Choudhary, Union Minister and BJP MP Giriraj Singh said that "the State government is taking the matter seriously," adding, "The accused will not be spared." Another tall leader from Bihar and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi from HAM said that there needs to be a serious probe into why and how the VIP chief's father was killed in broad daylight. "We express our condolences to him. Such an incident should not happen," said Manjhi.
Stating that the government has to bear the responsibility for the murder of Sahani's father Jitan, RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari said, "We received a very unfortunate news from Bihar today. Former Bihar Minister Mukesh Sahani ji's father Jitan Sahani ji was murdered at his own residence. The government will have to take responsibility of this gruesome attack. If the families of ministers are not safe in Bihar...How can the common people be safe?"
"Mukesh Sahani's father, Jitan Sahani, has been brutally murdered. We are all deeply saddened by this. In this time of grief, all of Bihar stands with Mukesh Sahani; we all share his sorrow. CM Nitish Kumar's government does not spare criminals; those involved in this crime are being sought out and action is being taken against them. In this moment of grief, we express our condolences to Mukesh Sahani's family," said BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain.
