India Will Be Among Top 5 in AI & Deep Tech by 2029: Vaishnaw at Republic Plenary Summit

New Delhi: Ashwini Vaishnaw Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & IT asserted that India is “very well placed” to win the AI race, and said that it will be among top 5 in AI and deep tech by 2029, and will fundamentally change Indian society and economy. Praising the AI revolution in India, Vaishnaw at the Republic Plenary Summit 2025 - The Limitless India, noted that India can take leadership in this field.

Speaking at the mega event, Vaishnaw spoke about launching the common compute facility, developing a series of applications used to solve population-scale problems in this “new industrial revolution”

Bharat Must 'Democratize Technology'  Says Vaishnaw

Echoing Prime Minister's vison, Vaishnaw said "we must democratize technology", and adding “India is very well placed to win in this AI race, which is the new industrial revolution...we can take leadership in this field.”

"The way world is spanning out today, about 4 or 5 countries will have a big say in technology in coming 5 years, and India will be among big 5 Countries" he added.

Vaishnaw on India's Semiconductor Initiative

The Union Minister highlighted India’s strides in semiconductor manufacturing. "In 2022, we launched the semiconductor mission. Today, five semiconductor units are under construction, and by 2025, we will roll out the first Made-in-India chip," he said.

"We are not just making chips; we are building the entire semiconductor ecosystem. From design to fabrication to manufacturing, India will soon be a self-sustaining hub for semiconductors," he added.
