New Delhi: Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost Mission 1 is preparing for a historic lunar landing attempt on Sunday, scheduled for at 3:34 AM EST (2:04 PM IST). The robotic lander, developed by Firefly, aims to achieve a soft landing on the Moon.
The spacecraft is aiming for a landing site near Mons Latreille in Mare Crisium, a volcanic feature on the Moon’s northeastern side.
The Blue Ghost mission is part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program. This initiative allows private companies to send robotic landers to the Moon, carrying scientific instruments to support NASA's Artemis program. The goal is to lower costs and speed up lunar exploration, ultimately paving the way for establishing a long-term human presence on the Moon.

When is the Lunar Landing?
The Blue Ghost spacecraft is scheduled to land at 2:34 a.m. CT (3:34 a.m. ET). Firefly Aerospace will confirm the landing shortly after, assuming everything goes as planned.
What to Expect During the Moon Landing?
The Blue Ghost spacecraft has been traveling for 45 days through space, and now it must make a soft and precise touchdown on the Moon. The spacecraft must slow down from thousands of miles per hour while avoiding obstacles like craters and rocks to ensure a safe landing.
A successful landing will be a major milestone in private space exploration, showcasing the growing role of commercial companies in supporting NASA's lunar ambitions.
The scientific instruments on Blue Ghost will help prepare for future Artemis missions, bringing us closer to sustainable lunar exploration. Throughout its journey, the Blue Ghost lander has captured stunning images, including a version of Earth’s iconic "Blue Marble" photo.
